It's always tricky to find a suitable bass drumhead for a converted floor tom. Well, Evans just made the search a bit easier with this head from their successful EMAD series. This drumhead is only suited for floor toms that are converted into bass drums, which is why the edge of the head is shaped just like that of a tom head. If you have an actual 16-inch bass drum, with deeper, wider bass drum hoops, then you shouldn't use this drumhead. EMAD heads allow for a powerful attack and are highly durable.

It can be quite difficult to find a suitable bass drumhead for a 16-inch bass drum. This is mostly because we've only recently begun using drums as small as 16-inches as bass drums - most brands still consider 18 inches to be the smallest bass drum size. The 16-inch bass drum came into existence because an increasing number of drummers started converting their floor toms into bass drums. However, the downside of a converted floor tom is that it uses different hoops than a regular bass drum. A bass drum has deep thick wooden hoops, while a floor tom has thin metal hoops. That's why Evans makes these 16-inch heads both for bass drums and converted floor toms.
